1998 State Champions

The season

Northampton won its fourth PIAA team title in 1998, finishing an unbeaten 21–0 dual season and sweeping the District XI, Northeast Regional, and state team titles. It was the program's third unbeaten dual season of the 1990s.

With ten starters back, including State Place Winners Christian Luciano and John Hard, the Kids won the Mountain Valley Conference at 6–0 and the Cedar Cliff Duals for the seventh straight year, 42–15 over Dallastown in the final. Two duals nearly got away. Easton tied Northampton 24–24 on Jan. 24, and the Kids won on criteria. Parkland was tied 27–27 before John Hard's pin in the last bout gave Northampton a 33–27 win. On Jan. 31, Luciano's 22nd fall of the season set a school record.

Northampton won the District XI Duals final 26–23 over Parkland and the District XI team title 223.5–203 over Parkland with six champions. At regionals the team title came down to the last bout, and John Hard's pin of Nazareth's Steve Itterly gave Northampton a 94–93 win over Parkland. At Hershey, Luciano (171) and Hard (275) won state titles, Phil Hard placed 3rd, and Seth Lisa placed 5th. Rohn was named District XI Coach of the Year.
