The story
Christian Luciano capped a four-medal career with the 1998 PIAA Class AAA title at 171 pounds, finishing his senior season a perfect 40–0.
He climbed the podium one step at a time: 6th at 140 as a freshman, 4th at 152 as a sophomore, runner-up at 171 as a junior, and champion as a senior. In 1998 he won the Beast of the East, took Outstanding Wrestler and the pin award at the Hurricane Classic, and set what was then the school's single-season record for falls with 29. He won his third District XI title with a fall and the Northeast Regional title, then went 4–0 at Hershey: Jacob Lininger of Lower Dauphin 5–3, Mike Minella of Chartiers Valley 17–6, Steve Foote of Dallastown 10–3 in the semifinal, and Nick Richmond of McGuffey 7–3 in the final, built on three takedowns.
Luciano finished with 143 career wins. The 1998 Kids went 21–0 in duals and swept the District XI, Northeast Regional, and PIAA team titles, and teammate John Hard won the heavyweight title the same night.
