The story
Josh Haines won back-to-back PIAA Class AAA titles at 189 pounds in 2003 and 2004, losing a total of two matches in those two seasons.
After placing 3rd at 171 as a sophomore, he went 44–1 as a junior, one of the best win totals in school history. He swept the district and regional titles and went 4–0 at Hershey: Andy Bateman of Owen J. Roberts 15–2, Bret Caldwell of Solanco 8–1, a 9–7 overtime semifinal over Harrisburg's Philip Davis, and a 2–0 final over Kyle Narkiewicz of Warwick, one of four Northampton champions that night.
As a senior he went 40–1 with 21 falls. He beat Honesdale's Josh Arnone 2–0 in the regional final, pinned two of his first three opponents at states, and met Arnone again in the state final, winning 3–1. Haines finished with 157 career wins, and Northampton won the PIAA team title both years.
