Second in the league as the PIAA splits into two classes
This was the first season PIAA wrestling had two classes, and Northampton wrestled in the large-school bracket at districts. The team finished second in the Lehigh Valley League at 5-1-1 behind Lehighton, which won the deciding dual 25–19. Northampton also tied Catasauqua 28–28.
Steve Clemons' 13–3 heavyweight win decided a 27–26 victory over Wilson, and his third-period pin sealed a 29–25 win over Emmaus. Rick Billy (105) and Don Arndt (138) won titles at the first league holiday tournament, where Northampton placed second. Eight wrestlers advanced from the sectional to districts.
