Program's first District XI team title; league title shared with Bethlehem
Northampton won its first District XI team championship, scoring 50 points at the tournament held in its own gym on Feb. 27–28; Bethlehem was next with 27. Eight Northampton wrestlers reached the finals, and five won titles: John Lawrence (112), Steve Micio (120), James Hankee (127), Paul Kulp (138) and Dave Laury (165). Hankee's win came by fall, the only pin of the finals. Micio and Laury each reached the Northeast Regional final and lost.
In the Lehigh Valley League, Northampton and Bethlehem tied for first at 9–1. Northampton's only league loss was 29–15 at Bethlehem on Jan. 8. In the rematch at home, Northampton won seven straight bouts on the way to a 30–9 win, its first over Bethlehem in six years.
