The story
Mike Tomsic won the 1993 PIAA Class AAA title at 112 pounds the Northampton way: with a cement job. In the final he put favored Jason LaMotta of Conestoga on his back and pinned him in 45 seconds.
He won the District XI title by fall over Freedom's Jon Horvath and then the Northeast Regional title. At Hershey he beat Scott Bacco of Moon 6–5 and Randall Braunfeld of Radnor 12–9, pinned Eric Steppe of Williamsport in the semifinal, and then pinned LaMotta for the title. He finished his senior season 32–5.
His title came in one of the greatest seasons in program history. Northampton went 24–0 in duals, was ranked No. 1 in the nation, won the District XI and Northeast Regional team titles, and won its first PIAA team championship. Coach Don Rohn was named Coach of the Year.
